Event Recycling Law and Requirements

As of July 22, 2007, Washington State passed a law requiring that recycling be available at public events where beverages are served in plastic or glass bottles or aluminum cans.

The law (RCW 70.93.093) states that:

“in communities where there is an established curbside service and where recycling service is available to businesses, a recycling program must be provided at every official gathering and at every
sport facility by the vendors who sell beverages in single-use aluminum, glass, or plastic bottles or cans.”

The Department of Ecology has put together a fact sheet PDFabout Washington State’s recycling at public events law.

Yakima County, Solid Waste Division, has purchased recycling containers for businesses and organizations to borrow for their events.  These containers are available on a first come, first served basis.  To reserve your ClearStream®  recycling containers, please contact us at (509)574-2450 or download an applicationPDFand fax it to our office at (509) 574-2458.
